Castle Mountain Cat and Downhill Ski Weekend

Registration Opens Nov 1, just in time for Ski Sale Points!

Hungry for Some Untouched Powder?
Now is your chance to get it!

castle_cat_ski_1

Registration will open for this event on November 1st. We're giving this a try so members who volunteer at the ski sale can use their well deserved points to come on this trip, and hopefully we can improve accessibility.

After a fantastic turnout last year, and lots of knee deep powder, our club is again offering a weekend Cat & Downhill Ski trip to Castle Mountain Resort near Pincher Creek! We secured special rate discounted Cat Ski tickets, a cat for both Saturday and Sunday, and on-hill accommodations! Dinner is included at the T-Bar pub both nights!

Our special deal for the Cat Skiing is based on filling the Cat.  If we do not have enough signups, we may move everyone to either the Saturday or the Sunday for Cat skiing or some other option depending on signups.  Attendance last year was good so we don't anticipate this happening.

Cat Skiing

For Saturday and Sunday

  • A fresh gourmet breakfast
  • Complete avalanche safety equipment
  • A Huckleberry lift ticket to access the cat
  • An included to-go lunch
  • A full guided day of cat skiing
  • A celebratory beverage at Joe's Cafe at the end of the day

We have secured a fantastic rate for Cat skiing, so if this is on your bucket list or just something you wish to try, this is the event for you!

Downhill

We have discounted tickets, 20% off of regular price, available for members to purchase!

Note that breakfast, lunch, and an apres ski drink are not included with a lift ticket.

Lodging

Accommodations will be provided at the Castle Ski Lodge at the base of the hill. We have rented out the entire second floor, with three bed suites for those who are willing to bunk and are looking for a cost effective option, and two bed suites for those who would like some extra privacy.

  • We will host a social starting at 8:00PM at the T-bar Pub and Grub as a meet and greet as well as check-in for the  members. Dinner will be provided!
Saturday March 2nd:
  • The cat ski day starts at 7:45AM, where we'll meet up on the hill for breakfast and to get our day started
  • Downhill skiiers meet up on the hill for 9:30AM for a fun day of vertical!

  • Cat skiing will start again at 7:45AM
  • We'll start up downhill skiing around 9:30AM and ski for the day
  • Everyone may depart whenever it is convenient

Self Driving Details

You can expect to drive approximately 2 hours 45 minutes to get to Castle from central Calgary. Members are expected to split the cost of gas and include some maintenance cost. The maintenance rate suggested by the club is $0.06/km. The distance to the resort one way is approximately 250km, so for  a two way trip, expect to pay $30 divided by the number of people in the car (including the driver) in addition to the gas costs. At a fuel consumption of 8l/100km and $1.50/l, you can also expect to spend $60 in fuel divided by the number of people in the car. With four people in a car, it should work out to about $23 per person.

Registration Details

This is a flexible trip. You can register for one, two, or no cat skiing days. If you wish to join the club but do an activity like X-country or snow shoeing, you are completely welcome.

It is highly recommended that you stay on the hill as to not miss the orientation for the cat. However, if you wish to just come out and ski the day, that is AOK too.
