Description:
This is a very popular tour, running its entirely along a fire road. The trail is generally track-set when the hotel is open in February and March. During the recent February visit to Emerald Lake, we skied this Lake O'Hara trail, and found it to be a little bit firm, but one was able to ascend the steeper sections without having to "herringbone". Please ensure that you have moderately good snowplow technique for the return, which has some nice long, but wide, downhill runs.
IMPORTANT NOTICE:
THE TRAIL CROSSES AN AVALANCHE OUTRUN AT ABOUT THE 6.5 KILOMETRE MARK. RECORDS APPEAR TO SHOW THAT THE LAST AVALANCHE WAS IN THE YEAR 2017. WE WILL CROSS THAT OUTRUN PATH ONE PERSON AT A TIME. FOR YOUR INFORMATION, PARKS CANADA CLASSIFIES THIS TRAIL AS "SIMPLE, CLASS 1" IN TERMS OF AVALANCHE HAZARD.
