Well you just haven't experienced Lake Louise unless you have done the Loppet Stomp. Join us for the 48th year of this event. Well what the heck is it you ask? Well in order to prepare for the famous Lake Louise Loppet, taking place Sunday March 1st, we have to pack down the snow on the Lake. We do this on snowshoes. There is often a layer of slush under the snow, on top of the ice. This can muck up the snow machine tracks and the grooming equipment. By packing down the snow, it allows that layer of slush to freeze, making it easier to groom and set cross country tracks. We walk side by side across marked areas on the lake, packing down the snow in wide swathes. A great time to view the area surrounding the lake, chat with friends and watch the weather change. Go for a hot chocolate in the Chateau if your toes get too cold. AND if you want to help out at the Loppet, there are lots of activities and help needed. We will be holding a training day soon. Here is our Loppet page Lake Louise Loppet. Check out our volunteer information under Loppet Volunteer Info and FAQ's Weather forecast for Lake Louise here Weather is for the village. It is usually a few degrees colder at the Lake near the Chateau. We will meet Helen at the Lake to get organized to Stomp. For those that want to car pool, we will meet at the North Edworthy parking lot then proceed out to Lake Louise where we will meet at the boathouse. As you walk from the main parking lot towards the lake, veer left rather than crossing the little bridge. The boathouse is the little building by the lakeshore at the edge of the forest. Please let the trip leader know if you plan to drive out directly rather than car pool. Thanks Oh and don't forget, members earn volunteer points towards the cost of trips, events and ski cards.
