This 6 kilometer one way hike into the famous and scenic Ink Pots and surrounding meadows. The Ink Pots are mineral rich pools with the interesting colors that are breathtaking! The blue-green color of the ponds never ceases to amaze and the mountain scenery surrounding is nothing short of spectacular. So, what are the Ink Pots? The Ink Pots are a series of five cool springs where spring water percolates up through the sand and gravel.

A short and popular trail from Canada’s highest navigable pass into alpine meadows below Mt. Rae. With most of the height gain occurring with the first kilometer, this trail is no easy stroll; there’s some uphill work to be done before you reap your reward.

Come see the best Yoho National Park has to offer by joining me on this 21 km round trip hike starting from Takakkaw Falls. I have completed this hike twice and it is breathtaking with a number of waterfalls, fantastic views, and we even get to meander past Stanley Mitchell Hut. This hike gets 4.8 starts on Alltrails.
This is a full day hike with an elevation gain of 1,050 meters.
Please note the early start time from Calgary.

Club Favorite

This jade-coloured lake is a year round popular destination and you are unlikely to be alone. In addition to the hiking crowd, scramblers use the trail to access Mount Chester, Galatea and Gusty Peak and boulders to access Elephant Rocks.

The start up steeply inclined logging roads is less than aesthetic, but after that it‘s a pleasant and mostly easy walk though alternating forest and flowery meadows.

The picturesque valley to the north of Chester Creek holds three small lakes. From the lakeshore trail, we will take the well-used trail that climbs over the intervening ridge of larches and jumbo-sized boulders to the valley of Chester Creek. The trail continues upstream to the first tarn, whose damp shores are beautified by clouds of silky white cotton grass. The finger valley between Mt. Galatea and Gusty Peak is a goat hot spot and if we‘re lucky, you can spot them feeding on delicacies in damp, slanting guillies high up to the right.

This is an easy hike with nothing technical and slow and steady elevation gain. It‘s an official Parks Canada Trail, so it is well maintained and easy to keep track. The only difficulty for some, may be the distance. It is a wonderful hike with rewarding views of many lakes and peaks surrounding the pass and the amazing wildflowers.

Scenic hike to Rawson Lake in Kananaskis Country. The beautiful lake and views are worth the effort on this moderately difficult hike. We will be meeting at the Dalhousie LRT Station Parking Lot between 7:45 a.m. and 7:59 a.m. and look for the White Ford Explorer.

If you are up for a challenging hike but with fantastic views, then join me on this hike to Midnight Peak. This is 11 km in and out with an elevation gain of 890 meters. However, the devil is in the details. The first 4 km to Baldy Pass has an elevation gain of 450 meters, and the last 1.5 km has an elevation gain of 500 meters.
I completed this hike for the first time two years ago, and it is a good one! However, after Baldy Pass, things slow down due to steepness and from there and onwards it starts to become challenging where we will be working our way up a fairly steep incline with loose rocks. It is a doable hike but for experienced hikers only. I strongly recommend the use of hiking poles for this hike.

Description: The Rockbound Lake trip is a rather rigorous 8.4 kilometers hike carrying the hiker high behind the ramparts of Castle Mountain to the snow-fed waters of two distinctly different tarns, one a placid and green mirror fringed by a pleasantly open subalpine forest and meadowland; the other a cold, grey sheet of water contained within a basin of steep scree slopes and massive, tumbled boulders. Much of the trail to the lakes is quite a steep access road. If we time it just right, we may see the larch trees in all their glory.
