Galatea Lake Hike

About this event

Description:  Galatea Creek was once a place for adventurers, being fraught with difficulty and uncertainty.  In the early morning, low water in the Kananaskis River would entice people to wade across to the “trail.”  On returning in the late afternoon, they would sometime find the river a raging torrent and be forced to spend the night trapped on the west bank within sight of their vehicles.

Since then, the trail has been rebuilt with umpteen bridges, including a suspension bridge across the Kananaskis River and Galatea Creek and passing beautiful waterfalls.

This is an intermediate hike and is a popular trail and offers great scenic views.  The dirt trail is mostly sheltered by forest up to Lillian Lake.  The section up to the upper and lower Galatea Lakes are steep and exposed with loose rocks and wind with great views of Lillian Lake from the top.
