Snowshoe @ Cross Conservation Area

The Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area (ASCCA) consists of 4,800 acres of rolling foothills land.  It was donated by Ann and Sandy Cross for the protection of wildlife habitat and conservation education. Located just southwest of the City of Calgary off Highway 22X with onsite parking, we will meet on site at the ASCCA parking lot between 8:30 and 8:45 am.  NOTE: It's important to get there ontime as there is limited parking and we want to ensure everyone can find a spot to park.  As well, you are required to pay for this parking and display your parking reciept. You can buy your pass on the website, in advance  at http://www.crossconservation.org/parking.  Please buy your parking pass at the same time as you sign up to attend this trip on our Calgary Ski Club website.
I have chosen this beautiful snowshoe location for Dec 30th as I belevee it will be less busy that Bragg Creek, Kananskis or other local spots during the Christmas break and aside fom parking there is a HUGE amount of space for all users to spread out and explore.  We'll traverse across undulating Alberta foothills with scenic viewpoints and common wildlife sightings.  Ideally we will complete the largest trail loop - the Paradise Trail which is 8.6 km in total distance with five hills and rated as strenuous.  However, depending on weather, snow conditions and group desires, we can always revise this to a shorter, moderate effort loop such as the Fescue + Alpine Trails at 4.6 to 7 km in total distance.  Possibly, if we'll split into two groups at the juncture between these trails if everyone is comfortable with doing so.  At the end of the day, it is most important to me that no one is left behind so please consider this to be a medium difficulty outing with plenty of breaks for photos and regrouping.
PLEASE NOTE: NO DOGS ARE NOT ALLOWED IN THIS CONSERVATIoN AREA.  Likewise no cross country sking.  Hence, this is strictly a snow shoe outing and you are asked to also bring your ice grips with you in case snow cover is light and you prefer to hike with them instead of snow shoeing.
For anyone interested in more stunning mountain and valley views following our outing, you can always make the short drive to the nearby Leighton Centre and gawk at their incredible view!  Maybe buy a little something in their gift shop or gallery as well to support our local artists.
Looking forward to a peaceful but invigorating outing with you!
