Hike Ribbon Creek/Kananaskis Valley
Description: This long a popular trail follows a spectacular valley hemmed in by cliffs of Mount Kidd and Bogart. Your companion for the whole journey is the disgracefully behaved Ribbon Creek, its rapids and waterfalls at their very best after June rains and snow melt.
From the end of the parking lot the trail crosses a meadow into the valley proper. You will then come across the seat inscription commemorating Michael B.B. Crockford who wrote a geologic description of the Ribbon Creek area in 1949 prior to the opening of the strip mine. He also named Mt. Allan. To your right, the deep grass hides a Rundle rock quarry opened by Elmer Smith in the 1960s.
When you cross the bridge and pass within the space of 2 kilometes, you come across the remains of three log cabins, legacy of the Eau Claire logging operation, which operated in this valley from 1886 to the beginning of the Second World War. Shortly after the last cabin, the trail enters Dipper Canyon. The rest of the route is a gradual climb. You then continue through the winding narrows, the way ahead seeming blocked by Ribbon Peak, which through many editions of the government topo maps was incorrectly marked as Mt. Bogart ...
