Watridge Lake and Karst Springs Hike - Monday, 2025 September 1st

Monday, September 1st, dawned pleasantly cool, with a starting temperature suggesting we at least start the hike wearing jackets.  As the day proceeded, temperatures warmed up to a still not-too-hot 19 degrees.

After a very gradual climb in about four kilometers of distance, and an easy downhill, we were at the lake.  Watridge Lake was totally calm, and absolutely beautiful.  We chose to enjoy our lunch at the lakeshore, and one of our members started a bit of art work, sketching the wonderful scenery.

We then decided to attempt the somewhat more strenuous climb (122 meters in 800 meters), up to the Karst Spring.  Two of us felt that the nice park bench below the spring was a good spot to rest, the remainder made it up all the way to the spring, which was gushing at a high rate, its waters tumbling down over logs and moss-covered rocks.  The interpretive sign did a good job of explaining how the amazing water source originated.

After a not-too-difficult decent, we then returned on the easy trail to the trailhead, covering just under 10 kilometers total.  A nice, low-stress hike to a beauty spot!
