Stomping the Lake at Lake Louise prior to Race Day that is scheduled for Sunday, March 5th.
Well what the heck is it you ask? Well in order to prepare for the famous Lake Louise Loppet, taking place Sunday, March 5th, we have to pack down the snow on the Lake. We do this on snowshoes. There is often a layer of slush under the snow, on top of the ice. This can muck up the snow machine tracks and the grooming equipment. By packing down the snow, it allows that layer of slush to freeze, making it easier to groom and set cross country tracks.
We walk side by side across marked areas on the lake, packing down the snow in wide swathes. A great time to view the area surrounding the lake, chat with friends and watch the weather change. Go for a hot chocolate in the Chateau if your toes get too cold.
The Lake Louise Loppet is Western Canada’s oldest citizens’ Cross Country Ski Race and attracts racers from 3 to 87 years of age and Olympic champions to first-timers.
We will require Volunteers on race day to give out and collect bibs and ankle bracelets, record order of finish and to be Course Controllers and Marshals. Please stay tuned for for information on how to volunteer on Race Day, Sunday, March 5th.

• Bring your own wipes and hand sanitizer and a mask.
• Social distancing and any other rules set out by authorities must be followed. Please respect others.
• Washrooms may not be available - please be prepared to pack out what you bring in, such as
Toilet paper, etc.
• Please make yourself aware of the risks in participating in this sort of event and decide accordingly.
• Don`t forget the usual items; proper clothing, water, food, equipment and first aid kit.
• Trip participants are asked to provide their cell contact information and emergency contact information to the trip coordinator,
prior to, due to the 'meet at trail head' requirement.
• Please do not sign up if you are experiencing any flu like, cold, or Covid19 symptoms.
Travel Distance: 182.5 Kilometers One Way / 1 Hour and 57 Minutes
Difficulty Level: Easy
Rendezvous Point: North Edworthy Park, northeast corner. Please arrive 15 minutes before so a vehicle convey can be arranged, as we will be leaving at 8:00 a.m. sharp. Please be aware, in order to car pool or attend this event, you must be double vaccinated.

Pet Policy: Pets Will Not Be Allowed. If you leave your pet in the vehicle while we are stomping the Lake, you will be asked to leave the event.
Guest Policy: The Club is currently discouraging guests of a member, from outside the Club, attending an event at this time due to the pandemic situation and potential liability issues. Once the government has lifted and has relaxed restrictions, guests are more than welcome to attend two events, as per the Calgary Ski Club Policy.
