Cross Country Skiing Elk Pass / Tyrwhitt and Whiskey Jack Trails

Description:

There is no doubt that Elk Pass on the Great Divide is the most popular destination in the park.  It isn’t the environs of the pass or the views, which attract, but rather the character of the trail itself coupled with consistently excellent snow conditions, which draws skiers back to Elk Pass long after the snow has melted from low down on the trail.

The Tyrwhitt Trail is everybody’s favorite.  Of course, the best part of the trail is the meadows, the highest continuous section of trail in the park, with superb snow superb views of the Elk River Mountains and if we’re lucky, lots of sunshine!

The Whiskey Jack Trail basically crosses all the headwaters of Spotted Wolf Creek, so you can expect flat sections interspersed with long up hills.  With a combination of all three trails, is the most popular route with skiers.
