Calgary New and Used Ski Sale

Update April 2020:
The Ski Sale Team is tentatively planning the 2020 sale.  Given the unique circumstances we find ourselves in,  we are proceeding cautiously and with the safety of our volunteers, vendors and patrons top of mind. We are actively exploring many alternatives but will only proceed if and when we are comfortable that we can conduct a safe and successful sale.  A final decision will be made in mid to late summer.  Thank you to all past volunteers, vendors and patrons for your support and understanding.

From its humble start in the Club President's basement over 50 years ago, the ski sale has grown to be the largest event of its kind in Canada, widely anticipated by skiers looking for bargains.  The ski sale is co-hosted by the local Canadian Ski Patrol and the Lake Louise Ski club.

Where and When

The ski sale takes place at the Max Bell Centre, Memorial Drive and Barlow Trail,  1001 Barlow Trail S.E. Calgary.

Volunteers needed

While a number of committees meet year round to organize  this event the work begins in earnest a few weeks prior to the Sale.
Banners are installed at high traffic locations around the City several weeks before the sale.  Then we test our cabling network and install new cables where necessary. Equipment is moved from storage, the arena is set up to receive equipment from the public and ski shops.  Items are appraised or scanned and inventory is placed on the sales floor.

Then cashiers, ticket wicket, safety, information security, food, public relations and more all come together to make the sale a success.  There is a job for everyone and in most cases little or no training is required.  Then we have to dismantle everything and move into storage for next year.

Where do I sign up

Opportunities are posted on the Ski Sale website www.skisale.ca/ and sign up for opportunities begins around Labour Day.  Don't worry, we will let you know.

So what's in it for me

  1. As a Calgary Ski club member, the proceeds of this sale pays for administration and allows us to subsidize events and trips.  We need people to volunteer in order to meet our commitment and receive our share of funding.
  2. Volunteers get access to a presale on Thursday evening after setup and inventory is complete.
  3. We reward Ski Club members who volunteer,  15 volunteer points for each hour worked which may be used to pay for Ski Club events.  1 point = 1 dollar.  Volunteering Pays
  4. It is a lot of fun.
  5. You get a coveted Calgary New & Used Ski Sale T-shirt.
