A loppet is a "community fun race" open to all ages and abilities.  Calgary Ski Club's annual Lake Louise Loppet is the longest running in Western Canada.  It is held every year in Lake Louise on the first Sunday in March. We encourage you, your family and friends to come out and participate in this extraordinary event and enjoy the breathtaking scenery of Lake Louise while cross country skiing.

UPDATE: 2021 Loppet

Due to Covid restrictions we are not able to host our usual mass start Lake Louise Loppet.  Instead we are busy planning a Virtual Loppet.

Watch for details coming soon!

What is a virtual Loppet, you ask.  Well, you simply register for the Loppet for a designated distance like 10km or 20km, pay your entry fee, get your swag bag, then you push, pull or drag yourself along a course of your choosing during the selected race period.  No need to go to Lake Louise.  You can do it anywhere in the world where you can use skis or roller skis.  You will have a 7- 10 day window to completed your designated distance, record your results and submit to us.

Sign up and pay,
Then have your say
in picking the day,
You can do it the dark,
you can do it for a lark,
Or even in the park,
You can do it on a whim,

You can do it with Jim

while singing a hymm.

You can do it in the sun
or just to have some fun
But not with a gun.

No don't be rude
Don't do it while nude
That would be lewd.

You can do it on skis
or even on your knees
Be mindful of the trees.
Put a smile on your face
cause you pick the place
that you want to race.
You can do it in the East
You can do it like a beast,
Even if your pants are creased,
Bring along your dog
take a shortcut by the bog,
Ooh that would be a slog,
Then send us your time

So I can make this rhyme

This poetry is a crime

Since all the courses are different, the prizes will likely be too.  Our prize committee is being secretive so every prize category will likely be a surprise.  You never know what they will come up with! Hilliest course, funniest costume, coldest day, furthest North, South, East and West?  Tallest skier, funniest hat, oldest skis, most generations of a family skiing.  You never know!

2020 Loppet

The 48th Lake Louise Loppet went off without a hitch on Sunday March 1st, 2020 after some last minute, minor revisions were made to the course due to some changes made by Parks Canada.  We hope you enjoyed the event and look forward to seeing you next year.  Many thanks to our fantastic event coordinators Helen, Alasdair and all our hardworking and enthusiastic volunteers.
