Cross Country Ski Lessons
Cross country skiing is an activity the whole family can enjoy. All ages and abilities can take part, so get out, learn a new sport and enjoy the winter.
While cross country skiing is not difficult, learning specific skills like how to fall correctly and navigating hills without fear will enhance your enjoyment of the sport.
Adult XC Ski Lessons
All lessons are offered in a series of 3 to 4 progressive lessons. Location is suggested but may be changed due to weather or snow conditions. Lessons are 1.5 hours each except Ski and Skills touring which are 3 hours each.
Club membership is not required for adult lessons.

A novice has cross-country skied a few times AND/OR downhill skied many times AND/OR has much ice skating experience.

Novice & Intermediate Lessons on Trail
The following programs are intended for NOVICE- and INTERMEDIATE-level cross-country skiers. It is assumed skiers will have some experience with the cross country skiing classic technique, or some downhill skiing experience. Participants will be typically skiing on easy (green) and moderate (blue) trails. In terms of fitness levels, participants should also have the stamina to complete at least a 2-hour hike, 2-hour bike ride or equivalent. They will take place and takes place on various trails outside of Calgary. The lessons are of longer duration and provide on trail coaching.

Cross country ski equipment rentals
CSC does not provide ski equipment for adult lessons and programs - and they are not included in the lesson prices See our cross country page for a list of rental and retail locations. Some areas may require a trail fee.
Lesson programs offered may depend on registration levels, weather, and availability of coaches. Coaches may cancel or reschedule the lesson(s) if the temperature is colder than –20 degrees Celsius (with wind chill) for the adult programs.
CSC does not conduct or provide private lessons.
The Calgary Ski Club does not offer children’s lessons at this time.
If you are interested in lessons, we recommend the nationally recognised Jackrabbit Program. It is designed for children age 4 to 17 with further progression available into more advanced programs. Participants will be divided into groups based on age and ability and progress through a series of 8-10 lessons each year. This is an excellent way to introduce your child to cross country skiing. Signup usually takes place in late summer to early winter, with lessons taking place in mid to late winter.
